This is my own personal blog. Honestly, no one should have allowed me to have a blog like this, but it's free and on the internet, so I'm not counting it as my fault. Here you can keep up with my ramblings, poetry, and news from my site, Every Writer.
Here is the skinny on me. I'm a writer, poet, teacher, editor, and web designer. I've been on the web since 1999. I've been writing poetry since 3rd grade and teaching on a high school and college level since 2004. Isn't this introduction a mess? It just is. It's ok to say it is; it is.
Anyway, I've been running Every Writer since 1999. It was once one of the most prominent writers' sites on the web. We get about a million visits a month now, down from nearly 5 million. That's ok. Things have changed, but I'm looking to build the site back.
Enough about Every Writer, though. I also write poetry, and my 2nd collection should be out this summer at some point. It's No Fear of Love and Monsters. I have been writing poetry and fiction for a long time. I have a BFA in Creative Writing MA in Journalism from Bowling Green State University. I worked in pharmaceutical publishing for a few years to keep the lights on and my family fed until I went back to school for an MS in Education. I now teach high school and sometimes college courses and run websites.
Yes, at one time, I made a lot more on my websites than I did in teaching; no shocker there. I also built everything I know a lot about SEO and everything myself. I also have 4 children. Look at that, an odd fact, right in the middle of a paragraph; it's ok. I'll get there. Yes, 4 children who are all different ages.
Let's see what else. Oh, I'm a horror and science fiction nut, but I usually don't write horror or science fiction. My stories, most have been published somewhere, are literary fiction. I won the university Clayborne Quin Fiction prize when I was there and was accepted into some MFA writing programs but decided to live a little instead.
6 days from now, I'll publish my first magazine for Every Writer.
Looks great, eh? Anyway, it's part of my endless search to help writers and be part of the community.
If you haven't concluded yet, I am a goof. I joke around but try to be kind and accepting of anyone.
So, in the end, this blog will be about me, my writing, and Every Writer. I hope you enjoy it.
Oh, and I'll leave you with a poem that I have been living/writing by for the last 2 years.
i’m writing to save my own life
i’m reading these poems
to find the answers
i already know
but don’t believe
i don’t want to die
without facing my truths
So I don’t usually like to explain my poems. I just try not to do that, but with this one, it just reminds me to keep writing for more reasons than just writing. Writing to me is a journey inside myself. We all hide a lot from our own eyes, and this poem tells me to keep my eyes open even when I don’t want to look.
Pictures on this site are all AI generated unless otherwise specified. Why am I putting AI generated art with my poetry? For the same reason that read the above poem everyday. I think the computer can see things in my poetry I do not. Sometimes I’m shocked by its interpretation. So I run my short poems though the generator.
Well, I hope you enjoy this blog. It’ll be about me, my writing and all the things in my life. Say hi below, I’ll say it back. And follow me on Twitter
